Overview

Intercambio, a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in US that connects English learners with community volunteers through in-person and online ESL classes. They support similar organizations nationwide with curriculum, training, and networking opportunities. Our funding comes from curriculum sales, partner and student fees, individual donors, grants, and government support.

Challenges

• Outdated Workflows: Intercambio's Salesforce system relies on outdated workflows and process builders, hindering automation and efficiency. Since 2022, Salesforce has transitioned away from these methods in favour of more advanced flows, impacting Intercambio's system effectiveness.
• Trigger Overuse: Excessive triggers resulted in unnecessary backend processes, causing response delays and operational issues.
• App Overload: Unnecessary apps utilizing various contact records led to storage and efficiency issues within the system, complicating data management.

Solution

Intercambio implemented Salesforce Updated workflows and used the database storage in the system:

• Transition to Advanced Flows: We updated its Salesforce system, replacing outdated workflows and process builders with more efficient flows, aligning with Salesforce's modern standards and enhancing automation capabilities
• Revised Trigger Usage: We streamlined trigger usage, eliminating unnecessary triggers to reduce backend processing and mitigate response delays, thereby improving system performance.
• App Rationalization: We conducted an audit and removed unnecessary apps from the Salesforce system, optimizing storage usage and enhancing overall efficiency in data management.
